Education in Larissa

Larissa, like the rest of Greece has more than it's share of "frondistiria" This is a school outside of school. I guess you can call it a private school that can supplement the public school. A typical day for a high school student is that they go to school from about 8:00 AM until about 2:00 PM. After that, they go home and have lunch (all Greeks have lunch between 2 and 4 o'clock) and then head off to the frondistirio until about 9:00 P.M. The idea is that if you want to get average grades you go to school, but if you want to get excellent grades you need the frondistirio.
Larissa also has its share of private tutors that are willing to teach you anything you want to learn. From English to Chinese, from boxing to basket weaving and everything in between. And of course there are also private schools for those that want to avoid the public system all together.
At the very top of this is a very large international school, "The International School of Larissa" for children of foreigners, or Greeks who can afford to pay for a higher quality of education.
